Program Description
The Blue Shoe Project is an exciting and highly interactive, one-hour live music theater/musical arts experience for elementary student audiences that combines music, dance, singing, rhythm exercises, storytelling and curriculum designed to captivate, educate and inspire students about music, learning and America’s cultural heritage.
If you are looking to inspires students about music education, this program is a great addition to the symphony, opera, ballet or other traditional field trip experience, but with options to deliver the program within the district!
Musician and Grammy Award winner Michael Dyson, aka Mr. Blue Shoes, takes students on a musical journey through the history of the Blues, its cultural heritage, evolution and impact on America and the world. Integrated visuals (PowerPoint Slides) that follow historical timelines are used during the presentation to reinforce learning and retention. We invite you to see what educators are saying about the program.
Program Delivery
This program can be delivered in a theater-equipped high school within the district minimizing transportation costs and time spent out of the classroom. If the district has a relationship with a local performing arts center, this too can provide students an musical experience comparable to theater-based field trips. If these venue options are not available, programs may also be delivered on campus in the school auditorium, cafeteria or assembly hall.
Curricular MaterialsCurricular study materials are provided in advance of the program to allow educators to easily integrate into established classroom instruction to compliment rather than impact instructional time. This also makes the live portion of the program a more meaningful arts education learning experience.
