Michael Burks passed away today upon returning from his European Tour. He was walking to his connecting flight back to Arkansas when he collapsed in the terminal, Alligator Records reports. He was taken to the hospital where they were unable to revive him. Michael was only 54.

We were lucky to get to know Michael very well over the years, seeing him perform at various festivals and attending his annual BBQ at the campground in Helena during the Kingbiscuit Blues Festival.

His death came way too soon and as a total shock. He was larger than life and an incredible spirit in every sense of the word. We’re going to miss you Michael.

Michael was bigger than life. His shows were alive with energy. May Gods hand touch his family. Michael, we will miss you and your music

This last 12 or so months have been sad ones for blues fan. I discovered Michael Burks’ music about four years ago. He played a gig in Columbus two years ago, but that quarter I was teaching at night and couldn’t go. It was my loss. He was a great blues man!!
